A brief write up on Fyodor Dostoyevsky, one of my favorite authors.

Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky (Russian, 1821-1881). Dostoyevsky is purported to be the greatest novelist, and The Brothers Karamazov is supposed to be his greatest novel. He reveals his characters and concepts with such nakedness that I feel that my own writing is but a mask of my actual thoughts. Doestoevsky work has raw emotional power, psychological realism, pioneering use of point of view, and expresses the Russian soul, mind, culture, and society.

Dostoevsky's works include: Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov.

My favorite work of his is Crime and Punishment, a six part novel published in published 1866. He started writing it in first person perspective but changed it to third person so he could get into the heads of multiple people. This work explores the value of human beings even under conditions of utter wretchedness.

The entire novel can be viewed at Bartleby.com. My favorite chapter (Chapter II from Part I) can almost stand by itself. The chapter is where a curious fellow named Marmeladov tells Raskolnikov, the main character, a deliciously miserable story.
