Quarter-Inch Cartridge. A standard for magnetic tape drives established by a consortium of manufacturers. QIC comes in full-size (aka data cartridge) and minicartridge size. QIC-40 and QIC-80 are also known as floppy tapes because they do not need a separate controller. QICs come in sizes from 40 MB to 10 GB. See also tape storage.
Quality of Service. A satisfactory level of bandwidth (transmission rate), smoothness (lack of jitters), and latency (end-to-end delay).
In OOP (object oriented programming), this means to include the parent class of an object when you are referring to it by name. This is done since there may be objects that have the same name but come from different classes. EG: Upper.Fred v Lower.Fred.

To view, change, and analyze data in a database. Querying usually extracts desired data from a database.
Aka FIFO (first-in, first-out). A data structure where items are removed in the same order that they were added, i.e. the earlier additions are removed sooner. Think of a queue of documents sent to the printer. Items are added or "enqueued" in the queue (EG: 1, 2 becomes 1, 2, 3), then removed or "dequeued" or "shifted" from the queue (EG: 1, 2, 3 becomes 2, 3). Less frequently items are added or "unshifted" on the queue as if they got in earlier (EG: 1, 2, 3 becomes 0, 1, 2, 3), this is like sending a job to the printer with a higher priority than everyone else. See also stack and JavaScript Array.

A suite of multimedia technologies by Apple but usable on most platforms. The QuickTime suite has three major parts. 1. The QuickTime file format can hold a variety of codecs (audio, video, animation, etc.). This is similar to Microsoft's ASF and Ogg, but QuickTime came first. 2. The QuickTime media player is free and can play a variety of file formats. 3. The QuickTime SDK (software development kit) for programmatically making and manipulating QuickTime media.
A program that generates a copy of its own source text as its complete output. Devising the shortest possible quine in some given programming language is a common hacker entertainment. Named after the logician Willard van Orman Quine.
