Basic Usage

Connect to an OLAP data source by setting the Catalog.ActiveConnection property to an ADO Connection object or to a connection string.

'This VB code connects via an ADO Connection object:
Dim cnn As New ADODB.Connection
... 'Establish usual ADO Connection.
Dim cat As New ADOMD.Catalog
Set cat.ActiveConnection = cnn
'This VBS code connects via an ADO Connection object:
Set cat = Server.CreateObject("ADOMD.Catalog")
'This code connects via a connection string to an MD server:
Set cat.ActiveConnection = "Data Source=Servername; Initial Catalog=MDDatabaseName; Provider=msolap"
'This connects via a connection string to an MD file:
